Youth
Contrary to popular misconceptions, Youth are not the future of the church. They are vital participants in the faith community today! At St. John's Church, youth play an active role in worship, music, learning, service and fellowship. Currently Youth Ministry is expressed in several ways:

Middle School
6
th, 7th and 8th graders meet about once a month for food, fun, fellowship, and faith discovery. Trips and servant events are scheduled throughout the year and an overnight retreat is generally included in program planning.

Confirmation Ministry
8th and 9th graders participate in a special faith instruction on most Sunday mornings between September and May from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.   In October of 10th grade, these young people affirm their faith in a Three-fold Celebration of Confirmation.

Youth Forum
On Sunday mornings, middle school and senior high youth participate in an informal faith discussion group called Breakfast Club. Various media are used to support these learning and fellowship sessions, supported by adult leaders of the congregation.

High School
Senior High Youth (grades 9 - 12) gather about once a month for food, fun, fellowship and faith discovery. Trips and servant events are scheduled throughout the year and an overnight retreat is generally included in program planning.

Appalachian Service Project (ASP)
Teams of youth led by adults spend one week during the summer traveling to remote Appalachia to help rehabilitate housing in poverty stricken communities.   The experience includes group building, faith formation, training in construction skills, and the satisfaction of a job well done. Participants regularly return moved spiritually and emotionally by the opportunity to serve and get to know others.
